Four out of five – not bad – not good enough

August 18, 2013 By Jim

brainerdBRAINERD, Minn. –  Consistency is something the Amalie Oil / UNOH / All Star Performance Top Fuel Dragster, driven by Terry McMillen, has strived for all year long. In the down again, up again season that the team has experienced during the 2013 NHRA campaign it sometimes hard to find the bright spot in a race,  but McMillen never stops looking for that proverbial silver lining. Even after his first round loss to Clay Millican (3.89 to 3.83).

“We made it down the track four out of five times this weekend with pretty consistent passes,” McMillen explained. “I know this may sound silly, but this car is close to running some really good numbers – consistently. The engine is making great horsepower and it’s happy motor. We just keep fine tuning the clutch and looking for any little way to improve in that department. I think we found the last little piece of the puzzle in the donut and we’re going to make those adjustment and  for Indy. After that we have no excuses.”

Labor Day weekend marks the running of the U.S Nationals in Indianapolis, the undisputed king of races for the drag racing community and next on the schedule for McMillen and his Amalie team. “Everyone marks their calendars for this event,” McMillen said. “It’s the biggest race of the year. It’s the last race for teams to make The Countdown, it’s the Traxxas shootout, it’s where everyone pulls out all the stops. We can’t wait to get there.”

brainerd2Fans can vote beginning August 18th after the Brainerd event is complete to pick the eighth and final spot in the shootout. McMillen would love to compete in this event within an event. “It would be a big deal for us to make the Traxxas Shootout,” McMillen said. “We’d love to compete in this prestigious event and we’d love to represent the fans. We’d make sure that they were represented well.”

Fans can cast their votes by going to NHRA’s Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/NHRA
