MARTIN, Mich. – Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car leave the Knoll-Gas Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan this morning with a semi-final appearance to show for their efforts at the Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals. McMillen plans on carrying the momentum into the Amalie Oil North American Nationals at this weekends event in Epping, New Hampshire.
“There’s nothing like racing at Martin for us,” McMillen said after the action packed weekend. “It’s our home track. There are so many family and friends that make it to this race. I’m glad we were able to make go some rounds for everyone. Plus, being Torco’s premier race with Evan Knoll racing his car and all the excitement that brings, we were happy to be a part of that big weekend.”
The search for the InstiGator tune up maybe over, despite McMillen’s semi-final loss to Rob Atchison. “I can’t remember if I’ve ever lost a race that close,” said McMillen after losing by 0.0053 seconds. The race would be decided by approximately twenty-two inches and the stripe. “Rob and I were side by side that last 100 feet,” explained McMillen. “He just had the momentum headed to the line. I guess I’m going to have to ask Mike Baker (Competition Director) to inspect Rob’s body latch to make sure it’s the legal length,” McMillen joked about the margin of victory.
The next stop for McMillen is the Amalie Oil North American Nationals August 10-12 at the New England Dragway. “We always look forward to this event,” McMillen explained. “Not just because it’s an Amalie race, this is one of the premier races on the circuit. You can always expect all of the heavy hitters showing up and putting down some big numbers. The sea level conditions at the New England Dragway are ideal for drag racing.” McMillen will also pull double duty during the event when he pilots the Foley/Lewis Top Fuel Dragster entry for Torco Pro Nitro.
Adding to the excitement of the race is the continued involvement of Amalie Oil. “The New England area has been Amalie country for over 80 years,” said Andrew Bornstein, Business Development Manager for Amalie Motor Oil. “Our partners in that region provide over 100 retail outlets for Amalie products.” Amalie will host a hospitality tent trackside for friends and partners during the event.
Area distributors are also participating in an Amalie promotion to give away a John Deere CX Gator valued at $5,000. Don Bosely, District Manager Northeast explains, “Amalie is running radio spots starting Monday, July 9 and continuing through August 10. For a chance to win, fans just need to go by VIP, Car Parts, Robbins, Sanel Auto Parts or other area participating Amalie dealers and enter to win. There’s no purchase necessary.” The drawing will be held Saturday, August 11 before the ‘Night of Fire’.
