CONCORD, N.C. – At Indianapolis he finished eight points short of his goal in dramatic fashion. Now, Terry McMillen, driver of the Amalie Oil/UNOH/Motor State Distributing Top Fuel Dragster comes into the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at zMAX Dragway looking for redemption.
“My guys worked around the clock this past week,” McMillen explained. “They’ve been building motors and putting everything back together that we destroyed trying to make The Countdown. That was a tough deal. We hung our heads for a minute. But that’s all behind us now. We’re refocusing and resetting our goals for these last six races.”
While many have talked about McMillen’s team playing the “spoiler” roll for other Countdown contenders, Terry has his sights set on other goals. “We’d like to be the spoiler for everyone that likes to cheer for the underdog,” McMillen said. “But truthfully, before we do that, we have to figure out how to get this car down the track and bring it back to the pits with a happy motor. We need to go A to B consistently and competitively first. Once we figure that out we can start playing the spoiler.”
McMillen’s team also picked up local support for the race when Tim Marburger Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Country Inn & Suites University Place added their sponsorship for the weekend. “Local support like this is a huge deal for a small independent team like ours,” McMillen said. “It really makes a difference for us and we can’t thank them enough.”
