READING, Penn. – Terry McMillen posted his best elapsed time of the weekend in a losing effort to Tony Schumacher at Maple Grove Raceway.
The Amalie Oil / UNOH / All Star Performance Top Fuel Dragster posted a 3.85 second pass at nearly 323MPH. “It’s a tough deal,” McMillen said shortly after the loss. “We keep working on our early numbers in an effort to be able to run with these guys on Sunday. We’re just not there yet. We’ll keep chipping away at it. Our car keeps running consistent numbers on the back half that would indicate it’s a seventy car (3.70’s) – but until we can get the front half to pick up it’s just not going to do it. We’re trying different things. As soon as we get a decent qualifying number we go into test mode to try and pick up the pace early. It’s so close, we’ll just have to try again in Las Vegas.”
The Maple Grove event marked the third debut of McMillen’s pink dragster to bring breast cancer awareness and to benefit She4Life. McMillen’s pink dragster will run through the remainder of the season. “This has become my favorite time of the year, McMillen said. “This pink dragster gets so much attention. People share stories about their fight with cancer or a loved one’s fight. I think it means a lot to them – I know it means a lot to us to be able to touch so many more people than we normally do. We’re so blessed to be able to do what we do and we’re honored to play a small role.”
“I have to take my hat off to all of the NHRA teams that have gone pink in October,” McMillen added. “I think it sends a message to the rest of the motorsports community just how much the NHRA teams and drivers care about this cause. I hope it encourages more NASCAR and Indy teams to do the same.”
