MADISON, Ill. – In a rematch of the Charlotte race the week before, Terry McMillen, driver of the AMALIEⓇ Motor Oil INSTIGATOR Top Fuel Dragster found encouragement in the opening round loss to NHRA points leader Antron Brown. McMillen posted a 3.84
In Charlotte, McMillen took a starting line advantage to lead the race to nearly half track before the intake manifold let go and ended his day. Things were a lot different this week in St, Louis.
“He barbecued my butt at the tree this week,” McMillen said shortly after the race. “I guess I’ll have to take that for now for stirring the bees nest. But I think we went out there and proved something today and we’re excited to get to Reading for the race next week.”
McMillen’s car edged Brown in mile per hour at the finish line, posting a 322.58MPH to Brown’s 322.19MPH. More importantly, McMillen and crew saw the improvements they were looking for on race day.
“We changed a lot of things on this car,” McMillen added. “In just a few short rounds Rob (Wendland, Crew Chief) was able to get our car to run a competitive number and these changes are showing big improvements on our computers. We’re still a little slow with our early numbers and Rob has a plan to pick that up in Reading. We’re ready for Reading. Can’t wait to get there.”
