McMillen rattles into 10th provisional spot

October 5, 2007 By Jim

mcmillen_richmond.jpgRICHMOND, Va. – Terry McMillen piloted the Foley/Lewis Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster to the 10th provisional position during Friday’s rain delayed opening round of qualifying at the second annual Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals.
“Tenth doesn’t really mean anything tonight,” McMillen said after his inaugural qualifying attempt in NHRA’s Top Fuel class. “We’re happy to be in tenth right now, but if we’re still in this position after tomorrow’s qualifying I’ll be a lot happier.”
McMillen and Bobby Lagana would be the first pair of Top Fuel cars attempting to navigate what appeared to be a tricky quarter mile. “We watched the Funny Cars go right out in front of us with limited success,” McMillen added. “As it turns out we under-powered the track a little and that caused all of our tire shake. The track had a lot more bite than a lot of us gave it credit for.”

McMillen makes NHRA debut at Torco Race Fuels Nationals

October 2, 2007 By Jim

ELKHART, Ind. – Terry McMillen, driver of the Foley/Lewis Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster backed by Evan Knoll, will make his NHRA debut this week at the Torco Race Fuels NHRA Nationals October 5-7. The race held at Virginia Motorsports Park is one that McMillen has been looking forward to all year long.
“We circled these dates on our calander right away,” McMillen said. “Evan Knoll does so much for drag racing and this is one of the many events that he sponsors, so we wanted to be here to support him and to get some Top Fuel NHRA experience.”
“I’m lucky enough to work along side of Evan at Torco,” McMillen continued. “He’s really a great guy to work with. When it comes to racing, no one does it better. He gives us the best tools to work with and now this opportunity to race with the best of the best. It’s pretty exciting.”

McMillen and the InstiGator make strides Maryland

September 30, 2007 By Jim

McMillen_budds.jpgBUDDS CREEK, Md. – Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny car, powered by Torco Race Fuels qualified for one of the toughest Alcohol Funny Car fields in recent IHRA history. Sixteen cars would attempt to qualify for the eight positions available for eliminations, McMillen would capture the seventh in a field that saw track records reset often.
“It truly was some of the most grueling qualifying I’ve been a part of in some time,” McMillen explained. “Making the field at the Torco Race Fuels President’s Cup Nationals was an accomplishment all by itself.”
“We’ve seen a lot of improvement with our set up these past few races,” McMillen continued. “With the schedule the way it is down the stretch here it’s tough to find time to go testing. We need to find some time to go testing for a day so we can sneak up just a little more on this tune up.”

Torco Racing Fuels Announces the Year End Fueling the Sportsman Contest

September 26, 2007 By Jim

DECATUR, Mich. – Torco Racing Fuels announced today the launch of their year end Fueling the Sportsman Contest, starting just in time for the Torco Racing Fuels President’s Cup at the Maryland International Raceway, Mechanicsville, Md., September 28 – 30.
The winner of the Fueling the Sportsman Contest will be given the option of one barrel of Torco Mach Series 110 or $200 cold hard cash. The contest will continue until the end of the 2007 racing season, but rumor has it that Torco officials are in the planning stages for a 2008 Sportsman Appreciation Contest to run the entire 2008 race season.
“This is Torco’s way of saying thank you,” said Terry McMillen, of Torco Racing Fuels. “Evan Knoll has done an outstanding job supporting drag racing in general, but he has never forgotten where he came from and this is Evan’s way of giving back to all of the Sportsman racers who have supported Torco over the years.”

Tough weekend doesn’t discourage McMillen

September 24, 2007 By Jim

McMIllen_CloseUp.jpgMILAN, Mich. – Terry McMillen, driver of the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny and the Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster experienced one of those rare days that every drag racer dreams about. More like a nightmare actually, but a dream none the less.
McMillen, fresh of his second win at Toronto in the Foley / Lewis Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster, failed to qualify his hotrod. “It’s about like a roller coaster ride sometimes,” McMillen said. “It’s the highest of highs and lowest of lows. And to think some people think this is fun all of the time,” he joked.
While McMillen fell short of the field in his Torco powered Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car, he was encouraged at his final qualifying attempt. “We found a lot of power on that last run,” McMillen said. “We spun the tires all the way through first gear and well into second gear. This car is ready to fly. We’ll see what happens in Maryland.”

“That Toronto Ironman is going to look pretty nice next to the Edmonton Ironman,” McMillen commented as he drove back to his race shop in Elkhart, Indiana. “We had a good car all through qualifying,” he added. “We needed a couple of lucky breaks to get to the finals, but when the chips where on the line my guys came through in a big way.”

McMillen gets his own ‘space’

August 21, 2007 By Jim

mcmillen_happy.jpgELKHART, Ind. – Terry McMillen, driver of the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car and the Foley/Lewis Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster gets his own space, MySpace that is.
Today marks the official grand opening of McMillen’s MySpace page located at http://myspace.com/hoosierthundermotorsports. Special thanks goes out to Cori Wickler who helped put the page together after attending her first drag race at the Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals in Martin, Michigan.
“Being on MySpace was one of those things we had on our ‘to-do’ list this year,” McMillen said. “I can’t thank Cori enough for helping to put that together. We look at it as another opportunity to communicate and stay in touch with our friends, family and fans. It’s an entirely different demographic that we can now reach through social networking.”
“I just needed ‘my space’,” McMillen joked.

McMillen partners with Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance to raise awareness

August 19, 2007 By Jim

ELKHART, Ind. – Terry McMillen, driver of the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car and the Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster will partner with the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance (http://tsalliance.org/) on a campaign to raise awareness about tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).
TSC is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs. TSC affects at least two children born every day. Current estimates place TSC-affected births at one in 6,000, approximately 50,000 in the US, with nearly 1 million people worldwide. Currently there is no cure.
McMillen became aware of TSC after hearing the story of Stone Wendel, the 10-year-old son of George and Becky Wendel. “I remember speaking with George not too long ago,” McMillen said. “He shared with me what the last 10 years have been like with Stone. Then, I remembered what it was like when I lost my son Jason. While Jason didn’t have TSC, we were constantly searching for answers and we often felt helpless. Thanks to groups like the TS Alliance, support and information is readily available when families need it most.”
