There are a few things in this world you can count on. The sun will rise in the east and set in the west. What goes up, must come down. Consistency has its virtues. For Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car, consistency has returned to the team. Can they make it payoff?
The Knoll Gas – Torco Race Fuels powered team has put together back to back races that have produced low E.T. during Saturday qualifying. “We like to look at how we qualify in the heat of the day on Saturday,” said McMillen. “Those conditions give us a pretty good look at how we’ll perform during eliminations. Milan was good for us in a lot of ways. We were fortunate enough to get by Mark Thomas for the first round win.” The win would prove to be costly. The engine suffered extensive damage when a wrist pin broke around the 1100 foot mark of the race.
“There wasn’t once piece of that motor that could be fixed,” added Co-Crew Chief Tad “TV Tad” Heflick. “It even pushed a hole in the bottom of the intake.” Heflick and Co-Crew Chief Brent “Skinny” Lidgard spent the entire week building a new Hemi for the InstiGator. “We got the car fired on Monday,” said Lidgard. “It sounded good – everything is ready to go, we can’t wait to get to Toronto.”
McMillen added, “Our team doesn’t need motivation, we’re very motivated! We just need to set our sites and go after the win. If we have a little luck and our performance is there, we can accomplish our goal. We have so many marketing partners that deserve the opportunity to have the InstiGator in winners circle.”
