SAN ANTONIO, Tx. – Ayrton Gerthe, a sixteen year old sophomore at Rockdale High School, received two awards at the Super Chevy Show held at San Antonio Raceway, October 5-7, 2007. Ayrton entered and won with his ’91 Chevy S-10 in the Mini Truck 2 WD Modified Category, and also won the Jeg’s “Young Star” Award. This award is presented to a car show participant under the age of twenty-five who displays an entry that is owned and modified/maintained by them, and is an effort to encourage them to continue to be involved in the automotive industry.
“We bought the truck a couple of years ago for it to be the kid’s first truck when they turned sixteen. It was originally modified by a friend with a custom paint job, a larger engine, air bags were installed, and the interior has some customization as well. With Ayrton approaching his sixteenth birthday, he wanted to add some additional things, and over this past summer we began a customization of the tailgate and roll pan. Ayrton was involved with every aspect, and received minimal assistance throughout the entire project. He is very pleased with the finished product and receiving the awards added the finishing touch to his hard work,” said Duane Gerthe. “We’d also like to thank James Scott, owner of Scott’s Body Shop, for assisting and helping Ayrton with this project.”
