BAYTOWN, Texas – Terry McMillen will bring high hopes and his Amalie Oil Top Fuel Dragster to Houston Raceway Park this weekend for the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals. It will be McMillen’s first appearance at the east Texas track.
McMillen hopes Houston marks the spot for his first round win of the season. “We’re just taking it one round at a time,” he said. “We’ve ran pretty good at times, we just need to find a way to win a round. If we can do that, we can kind of fight our way into the top 10. It’s a little bunched up and it would be pretty fun to make it a little messier.”
Currently McMillen is 11th in points, with just three rounds separating him from positions seven through 10. “I think Houston would be the perfect spot to win a couple rounds,” McMillen added.
While this will be McMillen’s first shot at the Houston quarter mile, his crew chief Richard Hartman has a few spots on the track that he’s a little more familiar. “I remember hitting the wall here back in 1991,” Hartman said. “These lanes can be a little tricky and sometimes not very even. Sometimes lane choice is everything here.”
“We’ll work hard at getting this car into the top half of the field,” McMillen said. “I’m sure there will be at least 16 other cars trying to do the same thing. I just hope we’re a little better at it this weekend.”
