ATLANTA – Can you be 0-7 on race day this season and still be confident? After losing seven straight elimination rounds, Terry McMillen, driver of the Amalie Oil Top Fuel dragster thinks so. “We might be the only 0-7 team out here, but we’re better than our record would indicate,” McMillen said.
While some would argue that McMillen might be full of confidence, it’s hard to argue with his team’s early season accomplishments. McMillen has qualified in the top half of the field in the last three races and set new personal best elapsed time and mile per hour records this season. Yet, winning a round on Sunday still eludes that Elkhart, Ind. based team.
“We’re determined now more than ever,” McMillen said. “The racing gods have to smile on us sooner or later. I don’t know what it’s going to take. Right now I really don’t care. If we win a round in a tire smoking peddle-fest or if we have to run another career best number, we’re going to figure out how to get it done. The bottom line is that I know my guys will sacrifice and do whatever it takes. There’s no quit in this gator.”
“If all else fails we’ll write a book on how to lose races,” McMillen added. “Hopefully we’ll make enough money to buy more parts.”
ESPN2 will broadcast same-day coverage of Atlanta qualifying on Saturday, May 15 at 8:00 PM ET. Eliminations will be broadcast starting at 7:00 PM ET on Sunday.
