How much fuel does a Top Fuel Dragster use?
It’s one of the more common questions we get asked when we’re racing. While we tell everyone that we use about 20 gallons of nitro methane on the warm up and run – it’s sometimes hard to understand just how much fuel that is.
Here’s a video – showing ONE (1) cylinder – and the amount of fuel that goes into that cylinder over the course of a race. Multiply that by 8 – hold the throttle for about 4 seconds – and well, you’ve burned a bunch of VPs finest race fuel.
Richard Hartman Named Tuner for 2010 Amalie Oil Top Fuel Team
ELKHART, Ind. – In an announcement today, Terry McMillen, team owner and driver of the Amalie Oil InstiGator Top Fuel dragster, named Richard Hartman crew chief for the team’s 2010 NHRA Full Throttle campaign. Hartman joins McMillen after leading Bruce Litton as crew chief or co-crew chief to 14 IHRA victories, including Litton’s 2007 IHRA Championship.
“We’re excited about having Richard on our team,” McMillen said. “He’s proven himself to be a consistent tuner over the years. Drag racing is all about consistency and getting a car from point A to point B. I’m confident he’ll give us the best opportunity to make an impact early in our quest to make the Countdown.”

Amalie Oil goes Full Throttle with Terry McMillen next season
TAMPA, Fla. – Amalie Oil announced a multi-year partnership today with Terry McMillen and Hoosier Thunder Motorsports. McMillen will field a Top Fuel team for the entire NHRA Full Throttle drag racing season. The announcement extends a decade long relationship for McMillen and Amalie Oil that began with McMillen’s iconic Amalie Oil InstiGator Alcohol Funny Car.
“This is a big step for us and for Amalie Oil,” McMillen said. “Competing full time against the biggest and best teams in drag racing is going to be challenging and rewarding. I can’t thank them enough for helping us grow our program to this level. It’s the perfect place to showcase Amalie’s ‘Better than it has to be’ product line.”
Amalie’s racing heritage began when their red and white logo began appearing on legendary drag racing teams piloted by Gene Snow and Shirley Muldowney. A decade ago, Amalie began its relationship with McMillen continuing its commitment to showcasing their high performance oil in drag racing.
For the past two seasons, Amalie has been campaigning McMillen’s Top Fuel team in select NHRA races and the results were immediate. McMillen qualified in every event entered, including a record setting field in 2008 at Las Vegas. In 2009 McMillen set a new career best in Englishtown and earned his first round win against then points leader Antron Brown in Charlotte.

McMillen rolls the dice in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS – Terry McMillen rejoins the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing series this weekend during the ninth annual Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 29-Nov. 1, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This will be McMillen’s fifth appearance of the season with the Amalie Oil / Wolverine Boots and Apparel Top Fuel Dragster in NHRA competition.
McMillen’s most recent appearance resulted in his first NHRA round win when he defeated then points leader Antron Brown. He hopes to improve on that performance this weekend, but knows the challenge will be tough with 26 Top Fuel Dragsters entered for competition.
While the team has qualified for every event, like the rest of Vegas, there are no sure bets. “We’re really looking forward to making a mark in Vegas,” McMillen said. “But, we’re going to have to go out there and do our job. There are 25 other teams out there that want to make this field as bad as we do.”

“It’s time to win one for Amalie”
EPPING, NH – He’s been close on more than one occasion. In fact, Terry McMillen, driver and team owner of the Amalie Oil / Wolverine Boots and Apparel Top Fuel Dragster has been in 8 final rounds with 3 wins in the past three seasons. Three of those final round appearances have been at Amalie sponsored races.
“We’ve been close several times,” McMillen said. “In fact Paul (Noakes) drove my Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car to a win here last year and we had to settle for a runner up finish in the fuel car. We want to get a win in the Top Fuel Car for Amalie at one of their races. It’s one of those things that would put a big exclamation mark on a win.”
“This place (New England Dragway) is usually very quick. It’s exciting for us and the fans. If the conditions are right this is one of those places that we can see records fall.”
McMillen and his crew put in a little overtime in preparation for this event. The team made several test runs this on Saturday in preparation for the Amalie Oil IHRA North American Nationals. “We’ve been chasing one of those racing gremlins,” McMillen explained. “We didn’t want to take any chances going into this race.”
