Martin, Mich. – Speeds along the Michigan interstates just got a little faster. Legally? Probably not. But, that hasn’t stopped Jason and Stephanie Peterson, owners of the US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, from featuring the Amalie Oil InstiGator, powered by TORCO Racing Fuels, on billboards in preparation for the May 13th National City Thunder Nationals, presented by Pepsi.
InstiGator Hit By “The ROCK” Again
Rockingham, N.C. – It what must seem like a continuing and repeating nightmare for Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator team, the Rockingham Dragway proved to be the villain once again as the team failed to make the field in the rain shortened qualify session.
McMillen Looks For Magic Rockingham Formula
Rockingham, N.C. – Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car, powered by TORCO Race Fuels, head for the sand hills of North Carolina looking to restore a little magic at the Nicko’s NY Style Pizza Spring Nationals. “Rockingham had been good to us up until last season,” said McMillen. “Somehow we took the ‘Rock’ for granted.”
McMillen Enjoys Amalie Oil Texas Nationals
San Antonio, Tex – Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car, powered by TORCO Racing Fuels, leave the season opening, eMax Drag Racing Series event with a semi-final appearance and a spot among the top 3 in the point standings. The Elkhart, Indiana driver eliminated Terry Munroe before falling to Mark Thomas. Thomas went on to win the event.
All Smiles for InstiGator in Texas
Elkhart, Ind. – March 16, 2006 – If a car could smile, the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car, powered by TORCO Racing Fuels, would show off a toothy grin as big as the state of Texas. Maybe the car is just a reflection of its driver. Terry McMillen, pilot of the InstiGator, smiles as easy as the paint scheme on his hot rod. “Texas feels a lot like home for this team,” said McMillen. “It’s the first race of the eMax Drag Racing season and it’s the Amalie Oil Texas Nationals, there’s plenty to be happy about.” It’s no wonder San Antonio feels like home for the Hoosier Thunder Motorsports team, the InstiGator has posted a semi-final and final round appearance in the past 2 season.

“This is a unique opportunity that we are extremely excited about,” stated Terry McMillen, Hoosier Thunder Motorsports owner. “Thanks to Evan Knoll I was able to prove last season that I could drive the dragster and immediately began looking for a sponsor that could build on our partnerships with Amalie Oil and Torco Race Fuels. “We’re both in the entertainment business,” explained Chuck Weber, CEO / President, EntertainMax. “We feel like this is an outstanding way to increase our brand awareness and highlight our diverse capabilities.”

It was only a matter of time before we found the perfect fit with EMax Corp. It further illustrates C. Trade Group’s expertise in consolidating and utilizing the synergies of its divisions and joint venture companies.”
The EntertainMax / Hoosier Thunder Motorsports Top Fuel entry will compete in the IHRA Drag Racing series and a limited NHRA POWERade schedule. While McMillen and Weber are excited about the announcement, both know that the Top Fuel car is just the beginning of what will be done to showcase the expansive reach of EntertainMax. McMillen added, “There are a lot of layers to this sponsorship. As we unveil more of this relationship, it will become apparent this is one of the more unique partnership in the motorsports industry.” Weber agreed, “Our EMAX family of companies have expansive reach, we intend on using all of our resources to promote our relationship with Terry and the Hoosier Thunder Motorsports team.”

Flatout Gaskets Expands Partnership with Terry McMillen’s Hoosier Thunder Motorsports
Elkhart, Ind. – Flatout Group President, Mark Adelizzi and Hoosier Thunder Motorsports team owner and driver, Terry McMillen announced today that the Flatout Group would continue and expand its four year partnership. The Flatout Group is an associate sponsor on the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car, powered by TORCO Race Fuels and will add sponsorship to the McMillen piloted, Knoll Gas Motorsports, Top Fuel team.
“Flatout is one of the most innovative companies in the motorsports industry,” commented McMillen. “Mark and the folks at Flatout are always improving on an already great product. They consistently analyze and monitor the gaskets each time we remove them for future improvements. I wouldn’t put anything else on my car.”
The Illinois based Flatout Group provides gaskets and fabrication services to the racing and industrial industry. Flatout’s full line of high performance gaskets include; Copper Cylinder Head Gaskets, their one-and-only Rubber Coated Copper (RCC) gaskets and the SaberSeal MLS (Multi-Layered Steel Head Gaskets) making Flatout the number one choice of professional and sportsman drag racers in both the NHRA and IHRA drag racing series. Flatout offers a full line of exhaust, intake, valve cover and oil pan gaskets as well.
“Being one of Flatout Gaskets biggest supporters, Terry gets a first look at all new and emerging performance gasket technologies,” said Flatout President, Mark Adelizzi. “Basically, after we prove our concepts on the dyno, Terry is one of the first teams to give us back real field testing data. His feedback is immeasurable! We’re so pleased to be involved with the whole Hoosier Thunder team, we can’t wait to see them get their Top Fuel car on track in 2006.” We expect big things from Hoosier Thunder next season and we are glad to be involved with them for our forth year!”
Flatout’s commitment to drag racing has never been more evident. Besides posting contingency sponsorship with the IHRA, Adelizzi and his associates are always looking for innovative ways to expand their market. Case in point: Adopt A Junior Dragster Program.
At the beginning of the 2005 season McMillen met the Gerthe family, an IHRA Division 4 brother and sister team. McMillen then approached Adelizzi about a program to sponsor junior dragsters. “Without hesitation Mark stepped up and joined us to start the Adopt a Junior Dragster Program last year,” McMillen explained. “I know it meant a lot to Alesi and Ayrton and the Gerthe family to have quality Flatout Gaskets on their Junior Dragster Car. It also meant a lot to me to know that I’m associated with a company that has that kind of heart and vision.” Adelizzi added, “We’re very proud of our association with the Gerthe family. “The future of our sport is very bright with young stars like the Gerthe’s.”
Flatout Gaskets are available online and also at Summit Racing.com
McMillen Honored With IHRA’s Most Prestigious Award
Greensboro, N.C. – Terry McMillen, Hoosier Thunder Motorsports team owner and driver of the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car and the Knoll Gas Motorsports LukOil Top Fuel Dragster, was honored with the “Sportsman of the Year Award” presented by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) at their annual awards banquet held this past weekend. The IHRA considers the “Sportsman of the Year” award their ‘Most Prestigious Award’. McMillen joins past recipients; Clay Millican, Mark Horton, John “Doc” Sipple, Bruce Litton and Frank Teague along with longtime friends Quain Stott and Mark Thomas.
Terry McMillen – IHRA’s 2005 Sportsman of the YearMcMillen, known for his quick wit and colorful interviews, was caught off-guard as the announcement was made at the awards ceremony. “It was truly a surprise and a great honor,” McMillen commented afterwards. “I really didn’t know what to say or where to begin. Being on that stage with all of the past winners was humbling.”
McMillen, fighting an eye irritation, had not expected to attend the event this year. “So many people – racers, sponsors, friends – everyone, has called and offered prayers and well-wishes,” McMillen explained. “The out-pouring of support from the drag racing community has been overwhelming. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support.”
While McMillen may not have been 100% healthy going into the IHRA Awards Banquet, it didn’t stop the friendly banter that goes on between rival drivers. McMillen wore his sunglasses to the evening event to prevent light from aggravating his eye. During his acceptance speech, 3-time IHRA Funny Champion, Rob Atchison took a moment to note that the Funny Car field would look a little different in 2006, pointing out that McMillen would be driving a Top Fuel car and now wore sunglasses indoors, suggesting that McMillen was “too cool” to race in the Funny Car division any longer. While McMillen and the crowd had a chuckle, Terry was already wondering how and when he would have a chance to respond to Rob’s comments. Little did he know that his opportunity would come sooner than later when Terry was awarded the “Sportsman of the Year”. While the award itself left him almost speechless, it only took a minute for Terry to put on his driver’s suit and offer a “comeback” to Rob’s earlier comment. Terry suggested that the sunglasses weren’t for Top Fuel, but rather to diminish the glare that the stage lights were reflecting from Atchison’s head (Atchison chooses to shave his head).
One of the defining moments of the 2005 season came early for McMillen. Coming off a career best finish in 2004, McMillen had once again positioned himself with an opportunity to win his first event at the Amalie Oil Texas Nationals. The final round showdown would pair McMillen with then 2-time and now 3-time IHRA Funny Car Champion, Rob Atchison. However, Atchison’s car was wounded in a semi-final win against 5-time IHRA Champion, Mark Thomas. Atchison’s machine would require a new engine. Making the call for the final round was not a given for the Canadian-based team. McMillen and his crew were among the first in the Atchison pits lending a hand. “That’s just how it’s done in drag racing,” McMillen said. “When we’re on that line, we’re fierce competitors for about 6 seconds. In the pits we’re a pretty tight knit bunch.” Atchison would go on to defeat McMillen in the final round.
Some say McMillen had sealed his destiny towards winning “Sportsman of the Year” during that event in San Antonio. IHRA president, Aaron Pulborn would disagree. “There isn’t any ‘one point’ that earns this award. It’s one thousand points over a career. Terry consistently works at putting us all in the best light. Whether it’s helping the IHRA sell tickets or taking care of sponsors, he does whatever it takes to be successful.”
McMillen was quick to add, “I get the credit. But, without my team, the IHRA and great marketing partners, there wouldn’t be an opportunity to be in the position to win such an award. I couldn’t have done it without marketing partners like Amalie Oil, TORCO Race Fuels, LukOil, XLR8, Fannie May Candies, Flatout Gaskets, NGK Spark Plugs, MSD, Performance Graphics, Powershield Coatings and Crane Cams. It’s a team effort. My entire team consisting of Tad and Carrie, Brent and Denise, Dale and Dorothy, Jim and Lynnette, Jack Todd and my wife Rhonda.”
Another bright note for McMillen during the banquet was when he learned that two of his sponsors (Amalie Oil and TORCO Race Fuels) were nominated for “Sponsor of the Year”. TORCO Race Fuels will add the 2005 “Sponsor of the Year” award to its resume. “I’ve always said that we have the best sponsors in the business,” McMillen added. “Amalie and TORCO prove it year in and year out. I am very happy for Evan. His passion for drag racing has never been more evident.”
Evan Knoll, also responsible for the resurgence of the IHRA Nitro Funny Car, was named Drag Racing’s Man of the Year by the online publication “Drag Racing Online“.
Amalie Oil Renews Sponsorship With InstiGator – Adds Major Associate Sponsorship to McMillen Top Fuel Team
Elkhart, IN – In an announcement today, Amalie Oil extended their partnership with Hoosier Thunder Motorsports for an additional two years. Amalie will continue as the Major Sponsor on the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car and add Major Associate sponsorship to the Knoll Gas Motorsports Top Fuel team piloted by Terry McMillen.
“Our relationship with Amalie Oil began in 2000,” stated Hoosier Thunder Motorsports team owner Terry McMillen. “We’re excited to add to an already strong partnership. From Harry Barkett and Denny Madden to Andrew Bornstein and the hundreds of Amalie associates, we’ve always had the strength and support of one of the finest organizations behind us.”
Amalie Oil, the Official Motor Oil of the IHRA, is also the title sponsor on two of IHRA’s top events – The Amalie Oil Texas Nationals in San Antonio, TX and the Amalie Oil North American Nationals in Epping, NH. Amalie also posts contingency in both Pro and Sportsman classes in the IHRA.
The Amalie Oil InstiGator Top Alcohol Funny Car debuted in 2002 when McMillen and Amalie Oil’s Business Development Manager, Andrew Bornstein, expanded on the popular “gator” theme that the company used for its motorsports marketing. The Amalie Oil marketing department then took over and Michelle Barkett designed what has arguably become the most recognized car in motorsports. “Everyone just loves that smiling gator car,” added McMillen. “No matter where we go, whether it’s Texas or Canada, people see the Amalie logo and ask me, ‘Hey, isn’t that the gator car?’ It’s always a great feeling.”
A driver search for the Amalie Oil InstiGator continues and an announcement is expected soon.
Amalie will make the McMillen-piloted Top Fuel Team “Better Than It Has To Be” when they add their logo as a Major Associate Sponsor during the 2006-2007 campaigns. The sponsorship will increase Amalie’s exposure and brand awareness as the Top Fuel team will compete in all IHRA and at least 8 NHRA races. “From what we can see the quality of this team is outstanding,” commented Andrew Borstein, Business Development Manager for Amalie. “They’ll be competitive from the opening day. We’re excited about this opportunity to increase our brand awareness in new motorsports markets.”
Evan Knoll’s TORCO Race Fuels is also an Amalie distributor. Knoll added, “The marketing partners on these teams gel nicely. We’re very proud of our association with Amalie and the quality products that they offer to our racers and fans.”
Since 1903 Amalie has been “Better Than It Has To Be”. The company markets its products worldwide, has distribution operations in Dallas; Jacksonville, Florida; and Los Angeles.
