ELKHART, Ind. – Terry McMillen, driver of the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car and the Foley/Lewis Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster gets his own space, MySpace that is.
Today marks the official grand opening of McMillen’s MySpace page located at http://myspace.com/hoosierthundermotorsports. Special thanks goes out to Cori Wickler who helped put the page together after attending her first drag race at the Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals in Martin, Michigan.
“Being on MySpace was one of those things we had on our ‘to-do’ list this year,” McMillen said. “I can’t thank Cori enough for helping to put that together. We look at it as another opportunity to communicate and stay in touch with our friends, family and fans. It’s an entirely different demographic that we can now reach through social networking.”
“I just needed ‘my space’,” McMillen joked.
McMillen partners with Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance to raise awareness
ELKHART, Ind. – Terry McMillen, driver of the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car and the Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster will partner with the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance (http://tsalliance.org/) on a campaign to raise awareness about tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).
TSC is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs. TSC affects at least two children born every day. Current estimates place TSC-affected births at one in 6,000, approximately 50,000 in the US, with nearly 1 million people worldwide. Currently there is no cure.
McMillen became aware of TSC after hearing the story of Stone Wendel, the 10-year-old son of George and Becky Wendel. “I remember speaking with George not too long ago,” McMillen said. “He shared with me what the last 10 years have been like with Stone. Then, I remembered what it was like when I lost my son Jason. While Jason didn’t have TSC, we were constantly searching for answers and we often felt helpless. Thanks to groups like the TS Alliance, support and information is readily available when families need it most.”

McMillen’s semi-final appearance at Martin sets up Amalie race in Epping
MARTIN, Mich. – Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car leave the Knoll-Gas Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan this morning with a semi-final appearance to show for their efforts at the Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals. McMillen plans on carrying the momentum into the Amalie Oil North American Nationals at this weekends event in Epping, New Hampshire.
“There’s nothing like racing at Martin for us,” McMillen said after the action packed weekend. “It’s our home track. There are so many family and friends that make it to this race. I’m glad we were able to make go some rounds for everyone. Plus, being Torco’s premier race with Evan Knoll racing his car and all the excitement that brings, we were happy to be a part of that big weekend.”
Rumble in the asphalt jungle!
ELKHART, Ind. – You could call it a ‘rumble in the jungle’, the ‘party in the pits’ or just ‘mayhem in Martin’, Terry McMillen calls it home. The gator themed Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car, powered by Torco Race Fuels will be a fan favorite at this weekend’s Torco Racing Fuels Northern Nationals. The event takes place August 3-5 at the Knoll Gas Motorsports Park off of US 131 near Martin, Michigan.
“This race is the craziest race on the circuit for us,” McMillen explained “We will have a couple hundred hometown fans witnessing this event as our guests. We race and test here so much it’s just home for us.”
Besides being McMillen’s home turf, the track has proved to be friendly for the Indiana based team over the past few seasons, including a runner-up finish last season. This year, expectations are just as high. “The team is stating to jell,” McMillen said. “My crew chiefs Andy Mac Daddy and TV Tad made some changes in Grand Bend and the car responded, running a 5:89 in first round. With the addition of Austin Lambright we believe we have the nuclease to start going rounds and winning races.”
How low can you go?
ELKHART, Ind – As the Knoll Gas Nitro Jam rounds the half way mark of the 2007 season and the points battles start to heat up like a humid night on Lake Michigan, Terry McMillen wonders what it will take to make the Torco Nitro Top Fuel Field at this weekend’s Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals.
The August 3-5 event held at the Knoll-Gas Motorsports Park in Martin Michigan will feature an all-star cast of Nitro pilots including; seven time defending IHRA Champion Clay Millican, J.R. Todd, Melanie Troxel and teammate Doug Foley. Knoll himself will even compete at the event, adding another quality car to the mix of competitors.
Fresh off of his first win in Edmonton and semi-final appearance in Grand Bend, McMillen has fought his way into contention for the championship, currently in the fifth position. While McMillen fights to stay in the points battle with TJ Zizzo, Bruce Litton, Scotty Cannon and Bobby Lagana he knows just qualifying for the field will be an accomplishment.
“The competition this week is going to be awesome,” said McMillen. “Evan has five his of his NHRA cars coming over to compete at his race. This means it will be nothing short of a blood bath to get in the field.”
Flatout Gaskets Mundelein Cruise Night
Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car made a special appearance recently at the Flatout Gaskets Cruise Night in Mundelein, Ill.
“Any chance to hang out with Mark and the folks at Flatout is a treat,” McMillen said. “Just to have a chance to visit Flatout and see some of the amazing things that they do with gasket technology is pretty cool.”
Here’s just a few photos of some of the fun.
InstiGator moves into 5th place after Grand Bend
GRAND BEND, Ont. – When the MOPAR Canadian Nationals were complete, Terry McMillen and the Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny Car had fought back into the top five of the Knoll Gas Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series. The Torco powered alcohol flopper made its best lap of the year but fell to event winner Paul Noakes.
“My crew has been working so hard,” McMillen said. “We’ve done more testing this year than we have in a long time. It’s starting to pay off, we’re just not seeing all of the end results of the hard work. The motor is really happy and we’re starting to lean on it a little now. We just couldn’t get all of the adjustments that we needed going from Edmonton’s 4,500 foot adjusted elevation to Grand Bend’s 1,500 feet.”
While McMillen and crew were disappointed in the end result from Grand Bend, they know that the changes to their set up will produce the speed needed to compete. “This car is ready to run some big numbers now,” said Co-Crew Chief Andy McMillen. “We haven’t even started to lean on it yet. We’ll smarten it up a little more going into Martin.”
